Jalopnik shouldn’t hire a new weekend editor without Oppo’s blessing
While I’m not oppo royalty, and I wouldn’t have a say, I think the mods could help chose someone good.

Honestly, I stopped going to jalopnik when every 4th article was about Trump with the slightest shred of a connection to the car world and their comment section became nothing but “found the trumptard” or general flame wars. If I go to a car blog I plan to see car blog stuff - yes it’s still in the Gawker verse and Fusion Media but FFS what a way to alienate your audience.
As a side not I'm not for or against Trump. I'm 1158% against every single news outlet "reporting" on everything he does like it's absolute breaking news. If the news gets diluted with "first color Skittle Trump eats is green find out what that means" dilutes actual real news to a point where actual news doesn't matter.

I lost interest back when weekend coverage meant endless race articles and... Not much else. Just not my cup of tea

Unfortunately you can’t seem to get away from politics in any topic now.
Unrelated, I feel like Jalopnik has lost a huge amount of great writers in the past few years. I know it takes time to grow into that quality but man, they’ve lots some seriously good content creators.

I’m not sure that Oppo’s fast-paced breaking news style and advanced shitposting techniques are appreciated by the front page types. Though they do seem happy to mine Oppo for story ideas.

I’d vote TAE for weekend editor.
What? You say that’s not how this works...?

I suggested Daft over at twitter.

I’m flattered, but I’d suck as a weekend editor.
I do think they could consider hiring someone that lives in Europe, Japan,
or even Latin America, so that they get some interesting foreign market content

Mack changed that...

Conflict sells. More conflict, more clicks, more clicks, more ad buys...
May I interest you in Jalopnik gold?

What even qualifies as OPPO royalty?

If I had more interesting car things to do rather than being in college, I woudn’t mind giving writing for Jalopnik a shot. It could be fun to put my mind on paper and see what happens in an automotive environment.

I don’t

I feel similarly... I don’t have the time to pay the proper attention to it... Some writers post four times a day; thats a lot of work for a side gig

Hall and Oates agree:

Is it?? That actually doesn’t sound too difficult to me, provided again, I wasn’t in school. Sounds like a challenge I’d relish, as long as I would be allowed to
be politically neutral

If I recall correctly from when I worked at a similar site
, It’s not as easy as making four posts and then throwing it out on the open. I took
something like three to four
hours for every thousand published
words
to my name
. Granted, I was 16, and I wasn’t really told what to do; I had to throw ideas at the editorial wall, and some stuck... Then you need to give it some following on the comments... which is harder with Kinja than with other services.
You need to properly structure your article, make sure the editors like it, make sure it doesn’t have any spelling mistakes, that you’re not contradicting a fellow writer,
and you also need to make sure to cite your sources as much as possible.
Add to that giving the article some following on the comment section, twitter, facebook... Consider you need to do this for eight articles every week, and I imagine they can’t be shitposts like here on Oppo.

Who is Mack?

Mack Hogan isn’t a “who”
It’s a sentient entity without a defined volume or mass.

It sounds like 5 years of college and a plethora of essays has prepared me for such a role, comments section aside....What a consistently volatile environ
ment.
But I guess it comes with that territory.

For the record, I really enjoy the Mack-Weekend-posts... generally interesting. And, oddly, usually about cars.
They made him Weekend Editor, although I suppose that and $5.50 will buy a flavored latte at a Starbux in Greenpoint.
